The concept for this work came from witnessing several tattooed older women, who were dressed scantily while smoking cigarettes at the beach. In the painting, my non-conforming figure is purposefully stylized and disproportional. I wanted this piece to be striking. I relied on color to uphold the magnitude of defying the social construct that instructs us that older women must be modest.
